The Magellanic premium was begun in 1786 with a 200-guinea donation from John Hyacinth Magellan, a Portuguese member of the Royal Society, and was awarded periodically to "the author of the best discovery, or most useful improvement relating to navigation, astronomy or natural philosophy, mere natural history only excepted."; Located in folder: 1788 March 20.
